Special Ritual for Business (with tour beforehand)
Gaia Community has an opportunity to become part-owner of a green, progressive community center in the urban core! The current owner of the property at 4327 Troost Ave wishes to form an LLC partnership among like-minded groups, and members of the Site Committee have been talking with her for several months. At the January 2012 Ritual for Business it was decided that we had enough information to go forward with a proposal to use our New Home Fund to purchase a 25% stake in the "Ubuntu Village" Limited Liability Corporation, which would run both 4327 Troost and 4329 Troost.
Per our bylaws, a Special Ritual for Business must be called to make the decision to buy or sell real estate, with at least 40% of the Full Active Membership in attendance. Remember that in order to participate in our consensus process, you must have paid the pro-rated minimum pledge for the current fiscal year (as of February, that will be $80). If you are not certain whether you meet this requirement, please contact our Treasurer, John Boyce, at treasurer@gaiacommunity.org or 816-419-9448, preferably before the day of the meeting.
The Special Ritual for Business will take place at the site being discussed, and includes an opportunity to come at noon and tour/explore the facility if you have not had a chance to do so previously. The business meeting will start promptly at 1:00 PM and could go as long as 4 hours as consensus can take a long time to develop. Bring snacks or drinks! We anticipate that on-site childcare should be available in the 4329 building (which is a licensed daycare), but have not confirmed that yet.
