A Gaia Community clothing exchange has been scheduled for Sept. 21. We will set up at 6pm and then at 7ish (depending on how quick we can get set) anybody can come and choose items to take home with them. We will be in Barn Chapel.

This idea actually started after the Volunteer Simplicity workshop last year and KidSpace decided to go ahead with it first for the kids and then decided to include all members of the Gaia Community. The idea is to help get our students and ourselves clothed for the coming seasons in an environmentally and financially responsible way as much as possible.

It is designed to be simple:

  1. Go through your closets and drawers and find clothing/accessories that no longer fit or that you/your student no longer desire.
  2. Box/bag said items by size (number or Youth S, Adult L, etc...) and label box/bag with size. One size per box/bag please. Boxes are better (explanation lower down)
  3. The night of the exchange, please bring the boxes/bags of clothing to SMUUCh and give to one of the folks setting up.
  4. The clothing will be placed on tables labeled with the sizes.
  5. After the tables are set, anybody can choose clothing to take home. Bring your own bags to take home your "new" treasures.
  6. Items not taken will be re boxed/bagged and labeled and saved for a tentatively planned Spring exchange. Items left from that will be donated to the Gaia Garage Sale. Hopefully this cycle will start again next fall. This is why boxes are better. The Boyces still have two storage units and have volunteered to use them for storage. The boxes stack better and will be clearly labeled. Items returned later will be boxed up and sorted out next Exchange.
  7. Do not be worried about trying things on. Take it home and if it doesn't work, just bring it back or pass it forward. The idea is to bring what you have, take what you need/want.
  8. This is for Children and Adults. Shoes, outwear, gloves, scarves,etc....are all perfectly acceptable.
  9. Please understand that you are not required to bring stuff in order to choose things. Again.....the idea is to bring what you have, take what you need/want. In this spirit, please do not label items with your name as once the exchange is done, we will not be sorting items in order to return them. They are going to be sorted by size only and saved to the next exchange and then the garage sale.

Please pass concerns or questions to Linda at llboyce@mindspring.com.
